The bankroll is like the balance that you have during the game. It is the total amount that you have available to you to play.
Blackjack
The Blackjack consists of only two cards which total value is 21 points. An ace (11 points) and a Queen (10 points), for example, form a Blackjack.
Box
It is a rectangular box that is on the table and where the player places his bets. The player has the opportunity to bet on more than one box at a time.
Burnt cards
Five cards that the dealer burns at the time of distribution. These cards are put aside and are not used during the game.
Bust or Break
A hand is bust when it has exceeded 21 points. In other words, it has lost.
Card counting
Method used to evaluate whether the remaining cards in the deck are advantageous to the player or not. It requires to remember the cards that have already been dealt.
Cut card
Plastic card used to delineate the distribution of a dealer shoe. This card is rarely found in online casinos.
Double
The player has the option to double his initial bet, in which case he receives only one additional card. This is often done when the player has a hand with 11 points.
Double down
This is identical to the double, except that the cards are dealt face down.
Draw
A draw is a situation of equality. There is no winner nor loser.
Face card
A face card has a value of 10. The Jack, the Queen and the King are face cards. Although technically the 10 itself doesn’t have a face on it, it also qualifies as a face card.

Pat hand
Hand which point value is between 17 and 21.
Penetration
The penetration is associated with the location of the cut card in the deck. A penetration rate of 50% means that the cards are shuffled when half the cards have been dealt.
Tip
Tipping is not compulsory in casinos, although, in some countries, the dealers may help themselves as they hand you your payout. You cannot tip the dealer at an online casino.
Stand
Means stay in the game during play. This implies that the player refuses to request an additional card.
Shoe
The shoe – AKA deck- is the compartment from which the cards are dealt. The shoe may also contain more than one stack of cards.
Split
A split is used to divide an initial pair into two separate hands. To split, you must place the same bet on your second hand.
Soft Hand
The opposite of a hard hand. A soft hand has an Ace which can count as 1 or 11 as you choose.
Soft 17
A hand with an Ace and a 6. The player can decide to value the hand at 7 or 17.
Stiff Hand
This is a hand which value is between 12 and 16. This hand is likely to end up losing, hence the “stiff”.
Surrender
This option allows the player to leave at the end of the first deal. This way, he gets half of his bet back.
